2 hospitalized after multi-vehicle collision involving fire truck in west San Antonio, police say

Authorities said crews are working to clear the wreckage and reopen the intersection.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio fire engine was involved in a major collision Friday morning on the city’s west side, according to authorities.

Officials at least six vehicles, including a Bill Miller Bar-B-Q box delivery truck, were involved in the crash at the intersection of Marbach Road and Military Drive West around 8:30 a.m. on Friday.

Fire officials said a small concrete retaining wall stopped the fire truck just inches before it hit a utility pole. The collision was described by fire officials as a “sideways glancing blow” that caused both the box truck and the fire engine to lose control in the middle of the intersection.

The drivers of the box truck and a blue Toyota truck were hospitalized but are expected to be okay, according to police.

Authorities said crews are working to clear the wreckage and reopen the intersection. No other injuries have been reported.

This is a developing story.
