A VIA bus collided with a car in downtown San Antonio, sending one man to the hospital while sparking an ongoing investigation into the accident’s cause.
SAN ANTONIO — Two people, including a VIA bus driver, were taken to a local hospital after a bus collided with a vehicle then a tree in downtown San Antonio, according to police.
The crash happened at 600 North Frio Street around 6 a.m. Tuesday. Police say the driver of a silver car had stepped out of the vehicle after dropping off his wife, who works at Center for Healthcare Services. SAPD Sgt. Frank Carrillo said the VIA bus struck the car while the man was outside of it.
He was taken to the hospital, but his condition and the extent of his injuries were not immediately known.
There were five people on the VIA bus at the time, including the bus operator. That person, along with the driver of the car, were hospitalized for their injuries.
“After making contact with the vehicle, the bus struck a tree and then came to rest against a building,” a VIA Transit spokesperson said in a statement. “The bus operator and the driver of the vehicle were transported to local medical facilities. There were passengers on the bus at the time of the collision. Some were being treated at the scene with minor injuries.”
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
