SAN ANTONIO — Two men were hospitalized early Saturday after being struck by a pickup truck while standing on the side of the road fixing a tire near a highway ramp downtown, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Officers responded around 2:32 a.m. to the southbound on-ramp from E César E. Chávez to IH-37 for what police described as a major crash. Investigators determined two 20-year-old men were on the shoulder repairing a tire when they saw a Dodge Ram pickup lose control, strike two vehicles and then hit them, police said.
The driver, a 20-year-old man, attempted to render aid by moving one of the victims off the roadway after the crash, according to police.
Both injured men were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators said the driver was evaluated for DUI and was found to be intoxicated before being booked, according to SAPD.
This is a developing story.
