SAN ANTONIO — Two men have been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for trafficking meth, according to officials and a press release from the Department of Justice.
Authorities say 22-year-old Miguel Escobar from Las Cruces, New Mexico was caught in a traffic stop last year on August 25 in Kendall County. Deputies then found 131 pounds of meth in Escobar’s car.
Escobar was charged with a first-degree felony for making and delivering drugs. He took a plea deal for 50 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, authorities say.
A press release states another man involved in dealing meth, Joe Corona, 34, sold a package containing 486 grams of pure methamphetamine for $2,850 on March 3, 2021. The following month the DEA and the Frio County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant and found meth, guns, and ammo.
Investigators also discovered Corona worked for the Mexican cartel trafficking drugs into the United States.
After Corona was arrested in September, corona pleaded guilty this year in May for having and selling meth, according to the press release.
On Wednesday, Corona was sentenced to almost 20 years in prison.
