2 more arrested, facing murder charges in case of New Braunfels teen’s killing

Authorities said a 16-year-old died and the suspected gunman was injured in the Feb. 19 shooting.

SAN ANTONIO — Four people are now facing capital murder charges in connection with the killing of a New Braunfels teen last week after local police say they made two more arrests.

A New Braunfels 17-year-old and 23-year-old Jayden Lee Villa-McMarion of Converse were taken into custody Wednesday, New Braunfels PD said. Their arrests come nearly a week after police filed capital murder charges against a 16-year-old boy as well as 18-year-old Jayce Cooper, who remains at University Hospital after police said he was also shot in the Feb. 19 altercation.

The 17-year-old and 16-year-old suspects haven’t been identified by police due to their ages.

According to officials, officers responded to a residence along Saengerhalle Road, near New Braunfels Airport, on Feb. 19 for reports of gunfire. Details of what led up to the shooting are not known, but a 16-year-old boy died and police identified Cooper as the alleged shooter after conducting interviews and reviewing evidence.

Police say the other suspects face murder charges because they were a “party to the offense,” though the extent of their alleged roles in the crime is unclear.

Authorities say there could be more arrests in the ongoing investigation and urged anyone who may have information about the incident to call New Braunfels PD at (830) 221-4100.
