2 SAPD probationary officers have been fired. Here’s why.

The San Antonio Police Department has dismissed two probationary officers following unrelated incidents, with one facing charges.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department has fired two probationary officers after unrelated incidents a few weeks ago, though only one officer now faces criminal charges.

Giselle Lopez Chavez was accused of public intoxication after a downtown incident in late October while Cora Michelle Crocker was charged with assault after an alleged attack on the far northwest side in early November.

On Oct. 26, Police responded to the 800 block of N Alamo Street for a disturbance. Upon arrival, police discovered Chavez and Matthew Joseph Garcia were both on the ground in handcuffs in front of La Roca Cantina.

According to an incident report, Chavez told police she was with SAPD. She also told investigators that while Garcia was being detained she kept asking security what was going on and was eventually detained herself.

She was then taken to the public detox facility on Frio Street.

On Nov. 2, San Antonio police were called to the 5500 block of N Loop 1604 on Nov. 2. for an assault in progress.

According to an incident report, police interviewed a man, identified as Esmeraldo Sanchez III, who was visibly intoxicated and slurring his speech. The man said he had been at the bar when a friend or acquantiance texted him requesting a ride. The man found his friend in the parking lot and told her to get into the vehicle to which she eventually complied.

Authorities said Cora Michelle Crocker noticed the interaction and became upset initiating an argument with Sanchez. Crocker’s group of friends then joined in and began verbally fighting with Sanchez. During this argument, Crocker slapped Sanchez. Investigators did not note any apparent injury to Sanchez. Sanchez also denied pushing Crocker after the slap.

According to the report, witnesses told police Sanchez had aggressively approached the friend and Crocker, demanding that the friend get in his car. The witness said they were suspicious of this since the friend seemed drunk and Sanchez was extremely insistent. Concerned, the witness called police and during that time they saw Crocker hit Sanchez in the face.

Investigators said they talked with Crocker who corroborated Sanchez’s statement. The report also indicates Crocker told police she slapped Sanchez but was unsure if she had fallen or was pushed afterwards.

Crocker was booked for Assault Bodily Injury – Family Member. She is out on bond.
