2 students hospitalized after being hit by vehicle in high school parking lot | Another student faces charges

According to police, the student was driving recklessly in the parking lot when they hit two other students. Both were taken to area hospitals.

DEER PARK, Texas — Two students were hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle in their high school parking lot on Tuesday morning.

Witnesses said the couple was walking in the parking lot when they were struck. It happened at the Deer Park High School South Campus around 9:30 a.m.

“Dude lands on his head. We rushed over,” Gibson Campbell said.

Witnesses said the driver was being reckless.

“He was doing donuts … floored it right into them. It was pure chaos,” Campbell said.

According to Deer Park ISD, it happened in the southwest section of the Abshier Stadium parking lot. They said the vehicle “circled across part of the parking lot” and hit the students. Police said the student who was driving was charged with two counts of reckless aggravated assault.

School officials said students were on a testing schedule on Tuesday, meaning some were allowed to leave early.

The stepmother of one of the students who was hit said both of them are expected to be OK.

She said her step-daughter’s boyfriend pushed her out of the way and took the brunt of the hit to protect her.

Jacob Moore, a junior, said he rushed over to help when he saw what happened.

“There was a bunch of people around them. … She was crying … doing what she could to help him,” Moore said.

That’s when he said he jumped into action. He helped the boy who was hit by making him more comfortable and applying pressure to his wounds.

“I held his hand … talked to him the whole time,” he said.

Moore said that everyone was paying attention to the teen on the ground and didn’t even realize the girl was also hurt.

“She was worried about him. No one even knew she was hurt until 10 minutes after I was there,” he said.

KHOU 11 News learned the girl who was hit, Aimee, is expected to be released from the hospital later on Tuesday. The boy, Javier, is expected to be OK but will stay in the hospital for a while longer.
