The suspect in the shooting was shot during the incident and died at the scene, police said.
Police said officers around 12:45 a.m. were checking on a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot north of Jones AT&T Stadium. At some point, a suspect “produced a gun and began firing shots at officers,” police said.
The suspect was shot and killed, police said. Two Texas Tech police officers were shot and taken by ambulance to a Lubbock hospital. They have non-life-threatening injuries.

The Texas Municipal Police Association released a statement about the shooting, describing it as an “ambush.”
The police association statement said officers returned fire and killed the suspect. The statement also said both officers are expected to fully recover from the shooting.
