Ben was found as a stray in Kerrville back in December, and nobody ever showed up to claim him. Now time is running out.
KERRVILLE, Texas — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week’s Forgotten Friend named Ben has been at Kerr County Animal Services since December 27, after he was found roaming around Kerrville as a stray. Sadly, his time is running out quickly and he is at risk of euthanasia because KCAS doesn’t have the space to keep dogs longer than 60 days.
“Ben has been confined to a very small kennel at the shelter,” said Karen Guerriero, Kerrville Pets Alive. “Large dogs are really hard to adopt as we have many retirees in the community in Kerrville, and the private shelters don’t take many large dogs from animal control.”
Ben is a 2-year-old, 97-pound Anatolian Shepherd mix who has not yet been neutered.
Ben would prefer to be the only dog in your home. But if you have another dog, you can arrange to do a meet and greet where the dogs will check each other out safely through a fence to see if they would get along.
Ben appears to prefer to be around young women and men who are gentle. He warms up quickly to new people and would probably like to have a family, because he loves attention.
He really gets along great with all of the kennel techs at the shelter, and is just a happy go lucky dog.
He is house-trained and knows how to sit. He also walks really well on a leash.
He is eager to please everyone and adores treats.
