With Fiesta around the corner, KENS 5 reporter Roxy Van Ruiten put a $20 budget to the test at a Goodwill in downtown San Antonio.
SAN ANTONIO — For Fiesta outfit shoppers on a budget, one downtown San Antonio stop might be worth a look.
With just $20 to spend, KENS 5’s Roxy Van Ruiten stopped by Goodwill to see whether it was actually possible to find a Fiesta-ready outfit without overspending.
The goal was simple: find something bright, festive and fun enough for Fiesta, all while staying on budget.
“Right now we’re right in the middle of Fiesta Central in downtown San Antonio… and what’s really exciting is that you can find anything that you need for Fiesta right here at Goodwill,” said Libby Castillo.
Inside the store, the search started the way a lot of Fiesta shopping does: by heading straight for color.
After trying on three different looks, one dress stood out from the rest: a bright, flowy option that felt easy, fun and Fiesta-ready. The price? Exactly $20.
That meant the budget was officially tapped out.
There was still one tempting extra: a flower crown priced at $5.99. But buying it would have pushed the total over budget, so it stayed on the rack.
Instead, the outfit came together with something already waiting at home.
By pairing the $20 dress with a flower crown already in the closet and adding a belt, the final look still came together without spending a dollar more.
Castillo says Fiesta shoppers often come in looking for pieces just like these.
“I think people come in to find the clothing. It’s so bright and festive and we have everything here that you need,” she said.
For shoppers trying to get ready for Fiesta without dropping a lot of money, thrift stores like the downtown Goodwill can offer a cheaper way to build a look, especially if you’re willing to mix a new find with accessories you already own.
So before buying a brand-new outfit for Fiesta, it may be worth checking the racks first.
Sometimes, all it takes is one good find.
