CASTROVILLE, Texas — A 20-year-old man died early Sunday after a single-vehicle crash that led to a car fire along U.S. Highway 90 East, authorities said.

Castroville police officers responded at approximately 3:08 a.m. to the 800 block of the highway after receiving reports of a crash. Prior to the incident, officers had been alerted to a vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed near a Walmart on Highway 90. Shortly afterward, Medina County dispatch received a call reporting that a vehicle had struck a tree.

Officers arrived within moments and found a black Dodge Durango that had collided with a tree. While searching for the driver, officers noticed the vehicle had caught fire. Officer Thomas extinguished the flames.
