2M Smokehouse’s Picadillo Mac and Cheese named a 2025 top dish by NYT

“Imagine Hamburger Helper, but spicier, punchier and even more luxuriously creamy,” Priya Krishna wrote about the San Antonio restaurant’s offering.

SAN ANTONIO — Mac and cheese fans listen up because a creamy and spicy San Antonio dish has been recognized in a “Best of 2025 Dishes” article by the New York Times.

The NYT Food staff visited 33 states and tried more than 200 meals in their quest for the best this year.

Of those hundreds of dishes they tried, NYT only has 23 of those on their list, and one of them you can only get in the Alamo City.

Cheesy and delectable, 2M Smokehouse‘s Picadillo Macaroni and Cheese cracked the illustrious list.

“Imagine Hamburger Helper, but spicier, punchier and even more luxuriously creamy,” Priya Krishna from the New York Times said. “It’s not easy to one-up the singular, thickly spiced brisket here, but the picadillo mac and cheese — which runs as an occasional special — holds its own and then some.”

Mac and cheese sides are $6 for 8 oz., $9 for 16 oz. and $15 for 32 oz. at the restaurant.

There was only one more Texas dish on the list which was the Bad Honey Bunny at Mercado Sin Nombre in Autin.

2M Smokehouse is located at 2731 WW White Rd.
