The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office said two of the brothers were pulled from the water, but the third did not resurface. He was recovered later after a search.
FANNIN COUNTY, Texas — Three brothers, Howard, Kaleb and EJ– ages 6, 8 and 9 — died Monday after falling through ice on a private pond in Fannin County, officials said.
According to the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, multiple local and state agencies responded to an emergency call for the three brothers who reportedly fell through the ice into a pond located off 3 Rec Road near Bonham, Texas.
Officials said the 8-year-old and 9-year-old were pulled from the water by the first arriving responders and a neighbor. Those two boys received immediate medical attention while on the way to the hospital, officials said. The 6-year-old boy did not resurface but was later recovered after an extensive search of the pond, the sheriff’s office said.
All three of the boys died, officials said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all affected by this tragic incident,” the sheriff’s office said.
Loved ones created a GoFundMe page to help support the family during this time.
All three boys were elementary school students in Bonham ISD, according to a letter from the district’s superintendent. The superintendent said the district would provide counselors to any students or staff who need someone to talk to in light of the tragedy.
