Two athletes were taken to the hospital by ambulance and one was taken by helicopter, officials said.
PHOENIX — Three athletes were injured during a Friday night football game between Williams and Mayer High School, according to officials with the Williams Fire Department.
All were Mayer football players, officials said. Two were taken to the hospital by ambulance, and one was taken by helicopter, officials said.
All three athletes are said to be in stable condition, fire officials said.
Mayer Athletic Director Nick Colquitt told 12News on Sunday that all three boys “are doing well and recovering.”
It was a normal football game. It was a concussion that needed a [helicopter] due to lack of ground transportation,” Nick Colquitt told 12News. “Other players were fatigue and hydration levels.”
At the same time, three other medical calls came in to the Williams Fire Department, which is a lot for one small town to handle.
“Once the last two football players were transported, there would have been a delay if another ambulance was needed,” a statement from the fire department said.
