3 hospitalized after high-speed crash on I-35 in southwest-side San Antonio, police say

SAPD said the speeding driver fled the scene before officers arrived.

SAN ANTONIO — Three people were hospitalized following a multi-vehicle collision early Thursday morning on the southwest side of San Antonio, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Officers were dispatched around 6:02 a.m. to the 9000 block of I-35 S after reports of a major accident. Preliminary information from the police department indicates that a Ford F-150 was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with the rear of a Toyota Tacoma. The impact pushed the Tacoma into the grassy median and onto the access road.

The Ford F-150 then struck a metal barrier on top of the Cassin Road bridge, blocking lanes one and two. A semi-truck subsequently collided with the rear of the F-150 due to the lane obstruction.

The driver of the F-150 fled the scene before police arrived. Passengers of the F-150, including a 25-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, along with the 37-year-old male driver of the Tacoma, were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing and details may change as more information becomes available.
