3 killed, including 4-year-old boy, in Blanco County crash Wednesday

Three others were taken to local hospitals after the crash, which unfolded a few miles north of Johnson City.

SAN ANTONIO — Multiple people were sent to the hospital and three were killed in a three-vehicle crash in Blanco County on Wednesday afternoon, according to a post by officials. A 4-year-old child is among the victims.

Emergency crews were called to Highway 281 at Ranch Road 1323, about three miles north of Johnson City, at around noon for the major accident. Upon arriving, crews found six critically injured people, including several pinned inside their cars.

Officials with the Texas Highway Patrol said a car failed to yield the right of way when trying to turn onto the highway. It hit a southbound car, which officials said then spun into and hit the third car.

Three of the victims – 71-year-old Larry Higgins, 27-year-old Annett Morales and 4-year-old Carlos Morales IV – died at the scene of the wreck, authorities said. The ages of the three others who were hurt are unknown; two of them were taken by helicopter to a regional trauma center while the third was transported by ambulance.

The scale of the accident prompted 45 “public safety units” to respond, including ambulances, helicopters and “command units.”

State authorities continue to investigate the incident.
