34-year-old inmate dead after alleged seizure in cell, marking 10th death at Bexar County Jail in 2025

BCSO has confirmed the 10th inmate death at the Bexar County jail in 2025.

SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has announced the death of a 34-year-old inmate after he allegedly suffered a medical emergency Friday morning.

Around 1:45 a.m., an inmates used his cell intercom to alert deputies that his cellmate, identified as Ryan James Postoak, appeared to be having a seizure.

Upon arrival, BCSO said the responding deputies immediately began performing life-saving measures before medical staff made it to the cell and took over.

Despite efforts by medical staff and first responders, Postoak was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m.

Bexar County authorities said Postoak had been booked into the jail the day prior on charges of driving while intoxicated and collision involving damage to a vehicle. At the time of the incident, BCSO say Postoak was booked into a unit designated for inmates receiving detox treatments for withdrawal symptoms.

Authorities believe Postoak suffered a medical episode “compounded by withdrawal symptoms,” but ultimately the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the exact manner and cause of death.

This marks the 10th inmate death at the Bexar County jail in 2025 alone.
