4 charged in Bexar County human smuggling operation

Bexar County deputies arrested four suspects allegedly involved in a human smuggling operation, recovering four undocumented migrants in the process.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has arrested four suspects in a human smuggling operation that reportedly uncovered several undocumented immigrants.

On Friday, deputies said they observed a “suspected transfer of individuals” from a semi-truck into two vehicles at a local Love’s Truck Stop.

Deputies later stopped both vehicles, which allegedly led to he recovery of four undocumented migrants. The driver of the semi-truck was arrested on the scene, according to BCSO.

One of the migrants was taken to a local hospital for a leg injury and EMS was requested at the scene as a precaution.

“The migrants’ countries of origin were identified as San Luis Potosí, Mexico; Guatemala; and Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico,” BCSO said.

The four suspects were arrested, booked into the Bexar County Jail and face the following charges:

 23-year-old Julian Mike Garza

  • Smuggling of persons (3 counts)
  • Engaging in organized criminal activity (1 count)
  • Violation of protective order – On-site arrest (1 count)

29-year-old Chelsea Taylor Ann Bravo

  • Smuggling of persons (3 counts)
  • Engaging in organized criminal activity (1 count)

36-year-old Steven Eduardo Martinez Escamilla

  • Smuggling of persons (1 count)
  • Engaging in organized criminal activity (1 count)
  • Immigration violation – Illegal re-entry (Immigration Hold)

 64-year-old Ormond Andrea Tolbert

  • Smuggling of persons (4 counts)
  • Engaging in organized criminal activity (1 count)
