4-day school week possible at Floresville ISD for San Antonio-area students

A school district in the San Antonio area may be moving in that direction. The Floresville ISD School Board is set to vote on whether to adopt a four-day school week on March 3, following a survey that indicated 68% of staff, parents, and students would support the shortened schedule or a four-day hybrid option, provided that child care is available on the fifth day. This survey’s results were announced on the school district’s website on January 10, 2025.

The school district said calendar options will be created with the final calendar option to be presented to the school board on March 3 for a vote.

Among the survey questions was whether a shorter school week would enhance student attendance, to which 72.4% of staff responded positively. Additionally, 76.2% of staff believed it would positively impact their families.

According to the school district, 776 staff members and parents participated in the survey, along with 133 Floresville High School students in December 2024.

In a 2023 article, the Associated Press reported that many school districts have adopted four-day weeks to cut costs and improve teacher recruitment.
