4 dead, several injured in a San Antonio crash involving a bus and a stolen Camaro

More than a dozen people were hospitalized, and authorities are looking for four suspects who fled the stolen vehicle after the wreck.

SAN ANTONIO — A speeding stolen car smashed into a bus on an interstate in San Antonio on Thursday, causing a multi-vehicle crash that left four people dead and more than a dozen injured, police said.

Two people traveling on the bus were pronounced dead at the scene on Interstate 35, and two died at a hospital, police said. Another 16 people received treatment for their injuries.

Several people fled the stolen Camaro without stopping to help, including at least one who was armed, police said.

Police Chief William McManus said children and older people were among the injured.

The Camaro struck a trailer attached to the bus, causing the bus driver to lose control of the vehicle, which then bounced into a guardrail. A tractor-trailer then smashed into the bus, which rolled onto its side. Several people were ejected from the bus, police said.

Police said the people who fled the Camaro have not been located or identified.

A representative with Transportes Guerra, a shuttle bus company whose vehicle was involved in the crash, said it was heading from Fort Worth to Eagle Pass. The company asked in a Facebook post that anyone who may have had loved ones on the bus call them via one of three phone numbers:

  • (830) 319-5168
  • (862) 109-7187
  • (682) 758-1055

The identities of the victims haven’t been provided, but McManus said two of the victims killed at the scene were believed to be older adults. Two others died after they were taken to the University Hospital, according to officials.

Miguel Guerra, the brother of Jose “Tito” Guerra, confirmed to WFAA that Tito was killed while driving the shuttle bus. Guerra is the owner of Transportes Guerra, according to family members. He started the company 20 years ago.

Friends said Guerra was a hard-working man who was committed to serving his customers.

Rosalio Aguilera, 69, was also killed in the crash, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office. The identities of the two other people killed in the crash have not been released.

“This is going to be quite an extensive investigation here,” McManus said.

A representative of University Hospital in San Antonio told KENS 5 that the hospital was treating 15 patients, including two who died. At least two patients were in critical condition Thursday night, according to the hospital.

The hospital also said four of the patients were pediatric and all “in good condition.”

Surveillance video obtained by KENS 5 captured the moment two men stole a white Chevy Camaro out of a driveway in Northeast Bexar County earlier this week. Police have confirmed the same car was involved in the deadly crash Thursday afternoon.

The two men seen in the video are suspects in the vehicle theft, but have not been named as suspects in the deadly crash, police said. Police say it’s unclear who was riding in the Camaro, and their connection to the stolen car is still under investigation.
