4-month-long search for missing 8-year-old girl after Christmas Eve crash ends

The group that has helped search for missing 8-year-old Clara Robinson officially ended its search Monday, four months after her disappearance.

SHERMAN, Texas — A search for a missing 8-year-old girl in Sherman that has been ongoing since Christmas has officially ended.

Clara Robinson went missing after her family got into a crash on Christmas Eve near U.S. 75 while driving from their home in Oklahoma to McKinney, Texas. Her father, Will Robinson, died in the crash, while Clara went missing after their family’s vehicle got trapped in high water in a drainage ditch. Clara Robinson’s mother and three siblings were rescued and survived the incident.

Sherman police and other law enforcement agencies previously led the search efforts. For weeks, crews searched for Clara, delayed only by harsh winter weather that moved through the area.

On Jan. 14, Texas EquuSearch (TXEQ), a nonprofit dedicated to search and recovery efforts for families free of charge, took over the search operations.

Sunday, TXEQ ended its search for Clara. The nonprofit said that, despite every effort, she has not yet been found.

“From the very beginning, the search for Clara Robinson has stood as a testament to the power of unity, compassion, and unwavering resolve,” TXEQ said in a statement. “This mission has unfolded across complex and unpredictable terrain, and through every challenge, no stone has been left unturned.”

Over the course of the search, TXEQ used foot searchers, excavators, drones, K9s, kayaks with sonar, dive teams, helicopters and ATVs in an effort to find Clara.

The nonprofit said its independent local dive partners will continue the search in their own time and manner moving forward, and TXEQ is open to revisit the search “should a new and viable plan or expert-supported strategy arise.”

TXEQ took time in its announcement to thank the several agencies and community members who helped in the search.
