4-year-old Rottweiler named Chakra ended up in shelter after his owners went to assisted living | Forgotten Friends

CANYON LAKE, Texas — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week’s Forgotten Friend is a silly and sweet 4-year-old Rottweiler mix named Chakra who ended up at the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society (CLASS) when his owners both went into assisted living and couldn’t take him with them. He’s been at CLASS for almost a year now, just waiting for someone to choose him to love.

“Chakra has been with us more than 350 days and we would love to get him into a forever home before that one year mark,” said Stacie Shmidl, CLASS. “He was surrendered to CLASS when both of his owners went into assisted living facilities due to their ages and severe illnesses.”

Chakra is still learning how to play politely because he hasn’t really been around other dogs much in his life. He eagerly greets other pups with a wiggly butt and a huge smile, but his excitement sometimes turns into overly rough play because he’s still figuring out what “play” means. For now, Chakra would thrive as your only pup, but if your neighbors have dogs that he could be “fence friends” with that would be a great outlet for his energy. He’s not a fan of cats and would do best in a feline-free environment.

He would do well with any type of family and really loves being around kids. Chakra is respectful when he plays with with them. His ideal family would be one that takes him on daily walks and gives him tons of cuddles. He does well on leash and is already potty-trained.

“When he arrived at the shelter he was heartworm positive but has since been treated and is now officially heartworm negative,” said Stacie.

Chakra is silly, loving, and always wiggling his butt or gently tap dancing with happiness. He flashes his big smile non-stop too. He loves playing with his toys so much that he prances around with them to show them off.

“Chakra is an expert at making people laugh,” said Stacie. “Whether he’s gleefully tossing toys around, wiggling his whole body in excitement, or breaking out into his adorable gentle little tap dance, his antics are sure to bring a smile to your face. And when it’s time to unwind, Chakra transforms into the ultimate cuddle buddy, melting into snuggles and soaking up every bit of affection.”

He will eat any treat that is offered to him and loves pets and butt scratches.

“Chakra is such a good boy and is a staff and volunteer favorite,” said Stacie. “Although he has been at the shelter for almost a year, he’s still a happy and spunky guy that just appreciates the love and care we give.”

Chakra is healthy, current on all of his vaccinations and has already been neutered.

“He is overflowing with love to give and has a knack for turning every moment into a joyful adventure,” said Stacie. “This vibrant and silly boy is ready to fill your life with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.”

If you’d like to adopt Chakra, please contact the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society. To fill out an application, visit their website here.
