40 more employees laid off from Dr. Phil’s North Texas-based TV network amid ‘summer hiatus’: Officials

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Dr. Phil Show was placed on a “summer hiatus” this week, North Texas-based network Merit Street Media, confirmed to WFAA.

WFAA’s partners at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported a former employee posted about being laid off due to the hiatus. Merit Street Media confirmed to WFAA that “40 employees were affected” by the summer hiatus.

This is the second round of layoffs by Merit Street Media since the show launched in Fort Worth in April 2024 after initially ending the show in 2023.

Phil McGraw’s network made headlines late last year after Professional Bull Riders abandoned its partnership with Merit Street due to the network failing to pay the league its rights fees.
