5 people shot, 33-year-old man killed in southern Dallas, police say

Four people were injured, and one person was killed during a shooting in southern Dallas on Saturday, police said.

DALLAS — Five people were shot, and one person died from their injuries, Saturday night in southern Dallas, police said. 

Officers responded to a shooting call around 9:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, in the 2900 block of West Wheatland Road, Dallas Police said in a press release. 

“There were multiple gunshots,” said Brandon Morgan, who works at GoPuff Micro Fulfillment Center. “The first couple actually sounded like a firecracker, but when the fourth one went off, I knew it wasn’t a drill. People started screaming by then.”

Morgan said the shooting happened at the Verbazend Creations & Event Venue.  Morgan said the event center typically seems to cater to family-friendly events.

Police found that five people were shot on the scene, the release states. One person was taken to the hospital, where they died from their injuries, officials said. 

The man was later identified as 33-year-old Joseph Premeaux, police said. 

Another person is in critical condition, police said. Three other people are in stable condition, officials said.

Brayton Green was a few stores down when he said he heard five to six gunshots. He was not surprised to hear them, but was surprised when he saw that they had come from the event center.

“I hope everybody be safe, everybody chill out, ” Green said. “We have a great world if everybody just stops the violence.”

Police are investigating the incident, the release states. Anyone with information is being asked to come forward.
