SAN ANTONIO — It may not officially be spring yet, but with the cold and wintery weather behind us, it’s time to hang up those jackets and enjoy some outdoor family fun.
This weekend in San Antonio, there’s no shortage of opportunities to kickstart your spring early. Here’s what’s in store.
Jazz in the Garden
Kick off your weekend with a jazzy night out surrounded by the serene atmosphere of the Japanese Tea Gardens.
San Antonio Parks Foundation and KRTU hosts Jazz in the Garden: Spring Series on Friday, featuring live performances by Paul Farrell and Bon Vivants. It will be a perfect blend of music, nature and community for guests of all ages.
Organizers encourage guests to bring their own chair or blanket for seating. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Big Texas Fun
Opening this Friday and running until March 23, Retama Park transforms into a massive crawfish boil festival. Big Texas Fun brings the food, rides and good vibes.
The festival features 20,000 pounds of crawfish, unforgettable live entertainment, pig races, a petting zoo, photo ops and, of course, a Texas-sized carnival. Plus, see some brave contestants take on a crawfish-eating contest for some big prizes.
When: Friday, March 7 – Sunday, March 23 (hours vary, follow Big Texas Fun on Instagram and Facebook for a daily schedule)
Where: Retama Park (1 Retama Parkway in Selma, Texas)

Spring Fest
Celebrate Spring Break with nine days of live music, delicious eats, family-friendly activities and shopping at the Historic Market Square.
Expanding on its original Fiesta Primavera event, Spring Fest is the perfect way to kickstart the season early with free outdoor fun for the whole family.
When: Saturday, March 8 – Sunday, March 16 (Recurring daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.)

Sunset Festival
Visit The Espee inside historic St. Paul Square this weekend for a two-day music celebration.
Live music fans are invited to experience Sunset Festival, featuring a stacked lineup of rock, indie, R&B and hip-hop artists.
Friday’s performers include bands like Spoon, Band of Horses, Aly & AJ and more. Meanwhile, Santigold, Warren G and Allen Stone are among Saturday’s lineup.

Second Saturday Market
Stop by the Southtown art district for the Second Saturday Art Walk, featuring over 80 great artists, makers and vendors offering unique handmade creations, local homegrown products and special vintage finds.

Don’t miss out on the this month’s First Friday Art Walk at the Blue Star Arts Complex. Take advantage of the nice weather with two free outdoor movie screenings on Saturday: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” at Will’s Plaza at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts and “Wonka” at the base of the Tower of the Americas.
