5 things to do this weekend: Holiday events in full swing across San Antonio

From a seasonal coffee festival to a holiday market at Tower of the Americas, there’s plenty of festivities in store as we approach Christmas.

SAN ANTONIO — It’s looking to be a weekend of cool fall temperatures perfect for getting out of the house and into the holiday spirit with the whole family. 

Skip out on all the last-minute Christmas shopping chaos (that is, if you are not a last-minute shopper yourself!) and create holly-jolly memories at these events!

SA Coffee Festival

Sip on some of the best warm seasonal drinks San Antonio has to offer surrounded with an atmosphere buzzing with Christmas cheer. Stroll through downtown sampling a curated collection of seasonal drinks at the San Antonio Coffee Festival: Hot Holidays on Houston Street.

The event features live music and DJs, various photo opportunities and unique gifts made by local artisans at a gift market.

Every ticket includes a commemorative holiday mug, beverage sample tickets and more.

When: Friday, December 20 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Where: West Houston Street and North Flores Street (from the Alameda Theater to the Frost Bank Promenade)

Ice skating by the Pearl

Glide around the largest ice skating rink in Texas and step into a winter wonderland at the San Antonio Ice Rink.

The attraction features a dazzling Ferris wheel, carousel, a charming Wild West town, a replica Alamo and a thrilling human hamster-wheel adventure.

Stroll through a sparkling light tunnel and create lasting memories with plenty of photo opportunities and delightful surprises at every turn. There will also be cocoa, fresh popcorn and delightful Christmas cookies.

When: Open daily now until January 5 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Free tuba concert on the River Walk

The annual TubeMeister Christmas Concert returns to the Alamo City this weekend.

On Saturday, visit the historic Arneson River Theater where any and all tuba, euphonium and baritone horn players, regardless of ability level, are welcome to perform in a free community concert conducted by Lee Hipp, principal tuba of the San Antonio Philharmonic Orchestra. 

Registration is from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Rehearsal, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

When: Saturday, December 21 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Arneson River Theatre at La Villita (418 Villita Street)

Cost: Free (A $5 donation is requested of all participants)

Holiday Market at the Tower

Tower Market Days returns for the last 2024 date on Saturday.

Support small businesses and shop from over 40 local vendors from across San Antonio. The free family-friendly event features food and live music. It will be a beautiful day to browse and shop.

When: Saturday, December 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Tower of the Americas (739 E Cesar Chavez)

A Blue Star ‘Brickmas’

Also returning this weekend, discover a wide variety of vendors offering everything from handmade crafts to local delicacies at the annual Brickmas Holiday Market.

The San Antonio tradition is back and better than ever, featuring a holiday movie all day-long, tasty treats and drinks, local vendors, swag bags and more.
