5 things to watch: Spurs looks to rebound against mighty Cavaliers

Can the Spurs snap their three-game home losing streak with a win over the East-leading Cavaliers?

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs (32-44) will host the Cleveland Cavaliers (61-15) Friday in their final meeting of the season.

The Spurs are 0-1 against the Cavs this year, having almost handed the Eastern Conference contenders just their sixth home loss of the season back on March 27. Instead, San Antonio ran out of steam and lost 124-116

Friday’s game tips off at 7 p.m. at the Frost Bank Center. It will be broadcast on KENS 5 and WOAI/KXTN.

GAME REWIND

The Spurs are coming off a 113-106 road win versus the Nuggets, which sat all five of their starters one night after losing to Minnesota in double-overtime.

Harrison Barnes led the Spurs with 20 points in that game. Rookie Stephon Castle notched a double-double with 15 points and 15 assists; Chris Paul had 17 points and eight assists; and Sandro Mamukelashvili had 16 and 10 to secure a double-double of his town.

Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson and Jeremy Sochan did not play due to injuries.

“I think tonight was a good team win. I think a lot of guys are working extremely hard for their moment and the opportunity to get into the basketball game,” Barnes said after Wednesday’s win in Denver. “Obviously down a lot of bodies, but I was proud of the way that all of the young guys stepped up and made plays.”
