SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police arrested a 54-year-old man days after two people were shot and killed at a northwest-side apartment complex.
Joe John Perez was taken into custody Tuesday and faces capital murder charges in connection with the incident in the 7800 block of Callaghan Road, near Interstate 10 West. Officers arrived to the Casa Del Sol Apartments early Sunday morning where they found 40-year-old Jose Yanez Nava dead from gunshot wounds, according to authorities.
Another victim, 26-year-old Jorge Issac Espejo Gudino, was taken to a local hospital with injuries. But he later died.
Investigators believe an altercation broke out between several people just before shots were fired, though it’s still unclear what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting. In a Facebook post, the San Antonio Police Department said detectives found evidence showing that Perez shot both men, including video surveillance footage.
Perez, who has a lengthy criminal history, is next expected to appear in court Dec. 16, according to online court records. His bond was set at $800,000; if he’s released, he would have to adhere to GPS monitoring, full house arrest, random drug and alcohol testing, and no firearms.
