Taz was abandoned at Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa by his owner back in December of 2023. His mom checked him in to board him and never returned.
SAN ANTONIO — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week’s Forgotten Friend is a six-year-old Boxer and Bullmastiff mix named Taz who was abandoned by his owner at a doggy daycare facility on Christmas Eve in 2023.
“His mom checked him in for boarding on December 24, 2023 and never came back for him,” said Hannah Snyder, Marketing Coordinator and Customer Experience Manager at Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa.
Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa has been fostering dogs since 2010. Hannah tells us that the dogs come to them in various ways, either abandoned somewhere or even found on their doorstep. (Please don’t abandon your pets at Lucy’s). They also pull dogs they feel have a good chance of getting adopted from the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services euthanasia list. Their main partner in rescuing dogs is God’s Dogs Rescue, who provides for all of the animals’ medical needs as Lucy’s fosters the pup at one of their locations. Dogs are then adopted through God’s Dogs website.
Taz would do best in an active household with older kids. He is also good with younger kids, but because he is very muscular he could possibly knock them when he gets too excited. Taz is what we like to call “fun sized,” weighing in at about 59 pounds. He is definitely on the smaller size for Bullmastiffs, but that is probably due to the mix of Boxer he has in him.
“Fearless at work, docile at home, the Bullmastiff is a large, muscular guarder who pursued and held poachers in Merry Old England’ … merry, we suppose, for everyone but poachers,” according to the American Kennel Club. “They are are biddable and reliable creatures.”
Now add in the loyalty, affectionate nature, intelligence, work ethic, and good looks of a Boxer and you will realize that Taz is the whole package!!

Taz gets along well with other dogs, but probably isn’t a good fit for a home with cats. That’s because his breed has a “high prey drive” that might make him a bit aggressive with furry felines.
He loves being petted, adores treats and when you bring out a squeaky toy, he just goes bonkers!
“Taz is a spunky and smart individual,” said Hannah. “He loves to play fetch and already knows how sit, shake, lay down.”
He has already been neutered and is current on all of his vaccinations. In fact he is very healthy. He will celebrate his 7th birthday on October 25.
“He does really well in social settings with people and dogs and would be great as your wingman for an afternoon at Hops and Hounds or any dog park,” said Hannah. “He is the perfect balance of excitement and cuddles.”

You can visit Taz at Lucy’s Doggy Day care and Spa’s downtown location located at 937 S. Laredo St. That location is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. And on weekends from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Their two other locations are 2250 Thousand Oaks and 5010 N Loop 1604 W. Those locations are open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. weekdays and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
