Blu is seeking a stable home. Already trained and affectionate, Blu was rescued from euthanasia by Paws For Big Hearts Rescue.
SAN ANTONIO — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week’s Forgotten Friend is a 6-year-old Shepherd mix named Blu, who was pulled from the euthanasia list at another shelter by Paws For Big Hearts Rescue more than 200 days ago. Blu was placed with a temporary foster while the rescue works to find him a permanent home filled with love.
He had been found abandoned before he ended up at that previous shelter.
Blu loves getting attention and we understand he will even give you kisses in exchange for treats. He is already trained and loves playing fetch.
He does well with female dogs but the rescue says they are unsure how he gets along with cats.
Rescue staff believe that Blu’s ideal home would be one that has older children.
“Blu has never shown any aggression towards anyone,” said Jessica, Director of Paws For Big Hearts Rescue. “He’s a well-trained boy and loves giving attention and kisses to everyone.”
Blu is what’s considered a “senior” and as such is missing a few teeth, likely because of his age and possible time out on the street alone.
“The age at which a dog is considered a senior can vary depending on their breed and size,” according to MedVet. “Generally, smaller breeds tend to have longer lifespans and may be considered seniors around the age of 7-9 years, while larger breeds may reach their senior years sooner, around 5-7 years. However, it’s important to remember that individual factors such as genetics and overall health also play a role in determining when a dog enters their senior stage.”
