A Hill Country woman will spend four years in prison after she was found guilty of misapplying fiduciary property while working as an office manager with access to a company bank account.
Kacie Lynn Paulk, 41, was working at Brady’s Auto Repair at 225 Market Ave., Boerne, TX, 78006, when she reportedly embezzled $60,839 from her employer, forging a total of 57 unauthorized checks between July 7, 2022, and Jan. 17, 2024, per the Kendall County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
The Boerne Police Department first began investigating Paulk when they received a report from store owner Mark Beldon, who discovered a forged check that authorities eventually traced to the office manager.
Amy Taylor, a detective with the police department, revealed that Paulk’s fraudulent activity included numerous checks made out to herself that were ultimately deposited in her personal bank account.
Belden told authorities that he was the only authorized signer on the business account, and that he had not signed off on any of the checks that Paulk had written.
Kendall County Adult Probation Officer Paul Saldivar testified that Paulk had a lengthy criminal history, including seven felony convictions and recommended sentencing at six years confinement in prison. Paulk had asked the court for a sentence of probation.
She was convicted of forgery of a financial instrument in the 105th Judicial District Court in Corpus Christi in 2006.
The DA’s office said the court considered the severity of the offense, the financial loss to the owner of the company and Paulk’s history before handing down the four-year sentence on Friday, April 11.
