Cowboys family from California says call from Parsons was “a dream” after tearful TikTok blew up.
DALLAS, Texas — When Lesley Gonzalez told her son, Isaac, that the Dallas Cowboys had traded his favorite player — linebacker Micah Parsons — the 7-year-old’s first instinct was disbelief.
“You’re lying,” Isaac said, as the moment was captured on video and later posted to TikTok.
Lesley said her son’s uncles had asked her to record his reaction, knowing how deeply he cared about Parsons and that he would submit a reaction many Cowboys fans could relate to. It’s almost as if pain is a shared trauma among the Silver and Blue.
“His uncles and stuff asked me to record his reaction because they knew he was going to be emotional,” she said. “As soon as I recorded it, I knew. I was like, I have to share this because he was so emotional about it.” The TikTok didn’t gain much attention at first — but by the following day after Parsons was traded, it had exploded.
“I think we woke up with like 177,000 views, and then we finished the day with 2.5 million,” Lesley said.
The view count is now over 4 million.
Isaac, meanwhile, admitted he couldn’t believe the news was real. “I was like, there’s no way. Because after the TikTok, I checked her phone, and then I checked on the NFL news, and it was real,” he said.
Asked about team owner Jerry Jones letting Parsons go, Isaac didn’t mince words: “Yeah, that’s a really bad move right there.”
Micah takes notice
Among the millions of views came one that mattered most.
“Parsons commented on it,” Lesley said. “I was like, oh my God. He commented on it, so we were looking for it.”
Parsons’ comment was short but meaningful. “He said, I’m sorry, and then put an emoji,” Isaac recalled.
Soon after, Parsons’ team reached out directly to the family.
“Somebody from his team reached out. At first, I was like, no way. But then we emailed back and they wanted to get in touch,” Lesley said. “And Saturday morning, they let us know they wanted to know if Isaac could do a FaceTime call with him.”
When the phone lit up, Isaac could hardly believe it. “I was like, is this actually Micah Parsons?” he said.
Parsons encouraged Isaac that everything would be alright and that he hoped he would continue to follow his career despite the move to Green Bay.
When asked if the call helped him feel better, “Yeah, way better,” Isaac replied.
For Lesley, the gesture went far beyond the game.
“I’m so grateful to Micah, to his whole team, that they were able to put this together,” she said. “The Micah trade has had him stressed. For them to take the time of day, and to put the smile on his face. He’s been living a dream and talks about it all day.”
Parsons said he would also be sending Isaac a Green Bay jersey donning his new number.
Still a Cowboys fan
The Gonzalez family, who live in McFarland, California, bleed silver and blue. They’ve even traveled to training camp to see Dallas’ biggest stars in person.
And Isaac, despite his heartbreak, isn’t switching allegiances. He predicted the Cowboys would finish 13–4 this season.
“No way,” he said when asked about becoming a Green Bay fan.
For Isaac, his viral video began with tears — but ended with a call from his hero. A reminder that sometimes, what happens off the field matters just as much as what happens on it.
