SAN ANTONIO — Local hospitals and first responders put their skills to the test on Wednesday morning.
The Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) held its annual large-scale mass casualty exercise at Boeing Center at Tech Port.
700 volunteers gathered to help conduct a mass casualty exercise and evaluation to test our region’s ability to handle a mass casualty event.
31 separate hospitals and healthcare facilities both in and out of Bexar County participating in the exercise.
The 2-hour exercise tested the capabilities of hospitals, treatments, patient tracking and regional communications.
Volunteers acted as victims, friends and family to simulate the stress on the healthcare system. The “victims” wore special effects makeup to resemble the trauma patients.
