72-year-old man dead, 2 hospitalized in critical condition after major crash off Highway 90

Emergency crews are working to clear a multi-vehicle crash that killed a man and left two others fighting for their lives in Medina County.

CASTROVILLE, Texas — A 72-year-old man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash late Saturday morning on U.S. 90 in Medina County, authorities said.

The crash occurred at approximately 11 a.m. about six miles west of Castroville. Preliminary information indicates a Toyota pickup traveling eastbound lost control for unknown reasons, crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with an oncoming sport utility vehicle and a truck tractor-trailer combination.

The driver of the pickup, who was the sole occupant, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Two occupants of the SUV were transported to a hospital in San Antonio with serious injuries. The driver of the truck tractor was not injured.

Authorities said the crash remains under investigation. The scene was still active as of Saturday, and no additional details were immediately available.
