SAN ANTONIO — A 79-year-old woman was shot and killed and a teen shot in the buttocks during a shootout in downtown late last night, police say.
San Antonio Police responded to Indianola Street at East Cesar Chavez Boulevard around 10 p.m. Sunday for reports of a shooting in progress.
Police say a 19-year-old boy was shot and an 79-year-old woman may have been caught in the crossfire and killed during a fight between a group of people.
Officers say the elderly woman was shot in the head when the vehicle she was in the backseat of got caught in the crossfire.
Three people have been detained by police, however details are limited and we aren’t sure what role they played in this shootout. Police found multiple shell casings on the ground in the intersection.
This all started as a fight between some juveniles and at some point, shots were fired and 19-year-old was hit below the waist.
The shots continued down the block. That is where the elderly woman was riding in the backseat of a vehicle that was hit by gunfire and she was struck in the head. She was taken to the hospital but later died from her injuries.
Police say the male victim was also taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.
At last check, the medical examiner had not identified the woman.
As for the three people who have been detained, we are working to learn if they will be charged.
This is a developing story.
