8 undocumented Mexicans taken into ICE custody as authorities investigate possible smuggling attempt in southwest SA

Law enforcement flocked to the area of Quintana Road and Plumnear, close to the site where the country’s deadliest human smuggling event unfolded in 2022 when dozens of migrants were found dead in a sweltering tractor-trailer.

Authorities said no injuries were reported in this week’s incident, which Homeland Security is now investigating. Witnesses told San Antonio police officers that they saw a dozen people or more jumping out of a truck before running off in different directions.

Some were seen running into a mobile home park in the area before witnesses reported seeing them getting into different vehicles.

The eight undocumented migrants have since been transferred to ICE custody, Homeland Security officials said. It’s unclear at this point what charges, if any, police may be considering for the others who were detained, including the drivers of the 18-wheeler.
