8-year-old Vidor girl braves claustrophobic spaces to rescue litter of puppies

Once the puppies were born, the family was concerned about the impending cold weather.

VIDOR, Texas — An 8-year-old girl in Vidor sprung into action after her family heard a litter of puppies stuck under an old shed in their neighborhood.

A few weeks ago 8-year-old Lily Rivera and her family noticed a stray dog roaming near their home.

“She was dumped in our neighborhood probably about a month prior, she was a stray no one wanted anymore,” said Lily’s mother, Rachelle Rivera.

Soon they noticed that the stray would soon be a mother.

“We noticed she was getting a belly, we said oh lord Jesus, we’re about to have a bunch of puppies on our hands,” said Rachelle Rivera.

Once the puppies were born, the family was concerned about the impending cold weather, but when they went to retrieve the pups’ they found they were nestled deep under a shed.

The shed itself was barely a foot off the ground, making it impossible for anyone to get to them. Well, almost anyone.

“Hey guys, rescue mission in progress and this is the brave little girl, saving the day!” Lily’s mother exclaimed from behind the camera, as the 8-year-old wormed her way into the small opening.

Lily wasted no time navigating the tight space under the shed, returning to the opening each trip with puppies in tow.

“I wasn’t even scared to go in at night,” said Lily.

Lily finally emerged with the final puppy, a smile on her face, and 7 puppies at her feet.

“She’s my little fiery redhead, she’s brave,” said Rachelle Rivera.

Soon after, Lily and her family were able to get the new mom and her puppies to a safe and warm foster home.

A happy ending, all thanks to a little girl who was a perfect fit to save the day.
