‘9 years is too long’ | SA mother continues fight for justice in son’s unsolved murder

“She was the last person to text him, minutes before he died, so it was a girl that set him up,” said Josie Ramos, Richard’s Mother.

SAN ANTONIO — February 11 will mark nine years since the murder of 20-year-old Richard Ramos. Since then, it’s been an ongoing fight for justice for his mother who says she will not rest until his killer is found.

“I need justice for my son, nine years is too long,” said Josie Ramos, Richard’s mother.

In 2016, Richard was shot and killed on North Picoso Street on the west-side.

Richard, who about to become a father, was suppose to meet up with a girl before he was killed according to his mother.

“She was the last person to text with him minutes before he passed away. So it was a girl that set them up,” said Ramos.

Josie says when Richard was shot, she felt a pain in her heart. Minutes later, she got a call from her sister telling her someone had been killed near Richard’s home. Josie says she tried calling Richard but no answer, so she rushed to the scene.

“As soon as I see the body there, I could only see his socks. I knew that was Richard. That was the hardest pain in my life, to know that that was my son laying there,” she said.

Josie says being at the scene and not being able to hold her son and say goodbye was hard. She says Richard was a very giving person and always willing to help anyone in need. She adds that her son’s death has affected her physically and emotionally.

“Depression, anxiety, stress… I Just want to be in my room when I’m not working,” she said.

Josie says adding to the emotional toll is the fact that Richard’s case remains unsolved.  Josie says the lack of justice for her son has been frustrating.

“My heart hurts every day. I need justice for me, my family and my granddaughter, Richard’s daughter. We need justice,” said Ramos.

While finding the person or persons responsible for Richard’s death won’t bring him back, Josie says it would give her some relief.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in Richard’s case and Josie is hoping someone will come forward.

“Don’t be scared. Just make a call. That’s all you need to do. Just make a call, and turn them in,” said Ramos.
