KELLER, Texas — The city of Keller shut off water to 90 properties near Mount Gilead Road after a private contractor hit a water line, causing a leak.

The shutoff will impact homes on ten streets in north Keller, according to a social media post from the city of Keller. Homes on the following streets may be impacted:

– Clear Brook Drive
– Edgemere Drive
– Hibiscus Drive
– Meadow Creek Drive
– Mt. Gilead Road
– Penny Lane
– Ridgeway Drive
– Rock Springs Drive
– Stegall Drive
– Split Rock Drive

Keller Public Works responded to the leak Monday night on Mt. Gilead Road between Stegall Drive and Penny Lane, the city said in the post. A private contractor working on a telecommunications installation bored into a water line, causing it to spill 5,000 gallons of water per minute, the city said.

As of 9:40 p.m. Monday, Nov 25, 200 homes were experiencing low water pressure and some had no water at all.

As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov 26, 86 properties were without water and officials could not provide an estimate for when water will be restored, according to the post.

Keller Mayor Armin Mizani attributed the water main break to Spectrum.

“Whether it’s in Keller, Fort Worth, or other surrounding communities, your subcontractors have been causing messes all over Tarrant County,” Mizani said.

The mayor accused Spectrum subcontractors of failing to call the city to locate municipal lines, working outside of a permitted area and not notifying the city of the break, the post reads.

“Rest assured the City of Keller will keep an accounting on all the repair costs and we expect the city/our taxpayers to be reimbursed fully for this mess,” Mizani said. “In the meantime, I’ll also encourage state legislators to tighten up the screws on these companies hiring subcontractors doing shoddy work.”

This is absolutely unacceptable Spectrum. Whether it’s in Keller, Fort Worth, or other surrounding communities, your…

“While water shutoffs like these are always emergencies, we understand the additional stress created by losing water during the week of a holiday with children home from school and friends and family coming into town,” the post states.

While working to repair the leak, the public works department will close traffic on Mt. Gilead Road between Bourland Road/Marshall Ridge Parkway and Roanoke Road, the city said.

The Keller Pointe will open at 5 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Tuesday, offering shower facilities to anyone in the impacted area, the post states.
