SAN ANTONIO — Get ready for a barking good time at the 2024 El Rey Fido Coronation!
This year’s festivities will take place on Saturday, April 20, at 10 a.m. at Hops & Hounds, located at 1123 Avenue B, San Antonio, TX 78215.
El Rey Fido began back in 2002 as a feel-good spin on the already long-established Fiesta Royalty title of a similar name: El Rey Feo.
But what began as a pun has since evolved into an annual fundraising competition that raises tens of thousands of dollars for countless needy dogs and cats at the San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS).
Who is the next El Rey Fido?
After months of fundraising, the SAHS will celebrate this year’s El Rey Fido fundraising competition winners with the official crowning of El Rey Fido XXII and the 2024 Royal Court.
This year saw a lot of canines all vying for this year’s doggie crown, but there can only be one El Rey Fido crowned…
And the winner is:
Bou has been named El Rey Fido XXII!
She will be crowned on Saturday by Rey Feo LXXV John McFadden.
The four runners-up making up the 2024 Royal Court:
- Princess of the Food Bowl: Gixzr
- Duchess of the Chew Toy: Tootie
- Duke of the Fire Hydrant: Mushu
- Knight of the Royal Court: Thunder
San Antonio’s top dogs will all be dressed in true royal attire (velvet, sequins and all) for a fun-filled afternoon that you don’t want to miss.
This is a FREE family- and dog-friendly event, and the day will begin with El Rey Feo crowning El Rey Fido, specialty drinks (named after the court), pawsome vendors, Fiesta merch available for purchase, and so much more.
