The deadly crash happened around 12:23 p.m. on Wednesday in the 11000 block of Alamo Ranch Parkway.

Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene of the two-vehicle collision, which involved a white Ford Mustang and an SUV.

According to an arrest warrant, 20-year-old Richard Aron Gonzales was behind the wheel of the Mustang and was driving recklessly at extremely high speeds.

Witness statements, surveillance video from nearby businesses, and evidence collected at the scene of the crash all confirmed that Gonzales was speeding moments before the crash, according to police documents.

Investigators said Gonzales was traveling westbound, going at least 100 mph, when he struck the driver’s side of an SUV driven by 71-year-old Patricia Browning.

The impact caused Browning’s vehicle to roll and spin violently.

Witnesses reported seeing the Mustang speeding down Highway 151 and onto Alamo Ranch Parkway in the moments leading up to the crash, according to an arrest report.

Investigators said when they examined the Mustang, the speedometer needle was locked at 100 mph.

A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle’s airbag control module and its onboard data system, known as Berla. That data revealed Gonzales was driving at 108 mph in a 45 mph zone at the time of impact.

Browning was rushed to the hospital, but tragically died less than an hour later from her injuries.

Gonzales suffered serious injuries in the crash and remains hospitalized. BCSO officials say once he is released from the hospital, he will be booked on a manslaughter charge.
