A new app will allow you to stream ESPN. Here’s how much it’ll cost.

While some people may not like the price, there are options.

CINCINNATI — For years, sports fans have asked why they can’t simply stream ESPN. That’s about to change, but it could cost you more than you want to pay.

If you like watching sports, then you probably like watching ESPN. But without a cable package, you usually have to go to a sports bar to see that key game.

So a new app called simply ESPN will launch early this fall and will let you stream all games and content from any ESPN channel. But a new report by NPR says this could end up costing you more.

That’s because it’ll be one of the most expensive streaming services available at $29 a month for the stand-alone service. The report says families that already pay for Netflix, HBO Max, and other services may not be happy having to pay another $30 just for sports.

So how much are we spending on streaming these days? A new Deloitte Media trend report says the average family spends $69 on streaming services, not including $60 or $80 for their home internet. That makes it the same price as your cable bill ten years ago.

One money-saving option bundle the ESPN app with ad-supported Hulu and Disney Plus for $35 a month. Or,  you could just go down the street to the sports bar.

So consider bundling ESPN with other streaming services if you don’t want to pay $29 a month. You could also keep your old cable package.
