‘A nightmare we’re still living’: Family reacts after second suspect arrested in the capital murder case of a 4-year-old girl

SAN ANTONIO — For 17 months, a grieving family had been waiting for a phone call that finally came Friday. Investigators revealed that both suspects accused of shooting and killing a 4-year-old girl are now behind bars.

Deputies walked Bryan Salazar, 20, away in handcuffs Friday. He, along with Isaiah Perales, faces a lengthy list of charges in the alleged targeted attack, including capital murder.

Maryann Marble died in May 2024 when she was struck in the head by a bullet off Windsor Hollow. Her parents and two siblings were also shot but survived.

“It’s bittersweet, you know,” said her grandmother, April Luna. “I shouldn’t be getting calls like this.”

Luna said she had been anxiously awaiting the arrest of Salazar, who she felt showed no remorse as he was taken into custody.

“Like, not only did he take my baby girl, but he shot my other grandkids too — like one was on a breathing tube, couldn’t breathe,” Luna said. “They were both in wheelchairs, couldn’t walk. It was just a nightmare we’re still living because both of my grandkids still suffer.”

According to an arrest warrant, the attack was in retaliation for the April 2024 killing of a man who may have been related to Salazar. Investigators said the suspects were after Maryann’s father.

Luna said the father has been in Georgia since being released from the hospital.

“I had nothing to do with this, my daughter had nothing to do with that,” Luna said. “I don’t know what her dad was doing. We had nothing to do with it. It’s just heartbreaking.”

Earlier this year, Perales was indicted for capital murder. He has been in the Bexar County Jail since his arrest last year. Sheriff Javier Salazar said there could be more suspects involved in the case and urged anyone with information to come forward.

“There’s so many other people who need to be in jail with them because there was people that helped them,” Luna said.

She added that she hopes prosecutors seek the death penalty in both cases. Meanwhile, Bryan Salazar remains in the Bexar County Jail on a $3.5 million bond.
