A reminder: Spurs and San Antonio Rodeo gear will be banned at the polls when early voting begins. Here’s why.

Early voting begins Monday, with important projects like downtown renovations on the ballot.

SAN ANTONIO — Early voting kicks off Monday, and with it, the chance to vote on Project Marvel and other major renovations that could make their way to downtown.

But don’t forget this year’s rule: no Spurs or stock show and rodeo fairgrounds logos within 100 feet of polling locations.

No logos representing anything on the ballots this year. But make sure you have that valid ID.

USTA Political Science professor Jon Taylor knows that it is electioneering.

“This happens in any election – you can’t wear anything that might be considered electioneering inside the polling booth,” Taylor added.

Especially when it comes to prop ‘A’ and ‘B.’

Prop ‘A’, which is whether $192 million in hotel and rental car tax funds should go toward renovating and expanding the Frost Bank Center, Freeman Coliseum, and rodeo grounds.

Prop ‘B’ – the one we’ve been talking about for months. Whether to put more than 3-hundred-million toward a new downtown Spurs arena.

What happens if you wear something related to the two?

“Well, that’s up to each election judge – they’re the ones who make the ultimate decision – we are in the business of not denying anyone the right to vote, we just need participation from our voters,” Bexar County elections administrator Michele Carew said.

With the 17th constitutional amendments, Carew said the voting lines will be long.

“We have extra check-ins at every location now, so it is streamlined, but once you get to the ballot booth, it can take some time.”

Everyone with a valid ID and voter registration will be able to vote.

Carew says they were backed up with processing registration until Tuesday, when they got everyone cleared.

Polls open 8 a.m. Monday.
