Bexar County officials arrested a suspect after a road rage incident where a man was repeatedly struck with a handgun.
SAN ANTONIO — An arrest was made after a man was struck several times by a handgun in a road rage confrontation Monday, Bexar County officials said.
Alejandro Aguinaga, 35, is now facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
BCSO says a 58-year-old victim got into a confrontation with two men after a near-collision in the parking lot of a QuikTrip located off Marbach Road and Loop 410.
“The victim, it appears, found himself somewhat surrounded as it was not just those two subjects in the other vehicle, there was a second vehicle following that was with that same group,” Sheriff Salazar said.
Authorities said the two suspects were joined by four other associates in a maroon truck pulling a fifth-wheel trailer loaded with heavy construction equipment.
The suspects reportedly surrounded the victim when he went to go fill up with gas. One of the men pulled out a black handgun and pointed the gun at the victim before striking the victim multiple times in the head, according to BCSO. That man was later identified as Aguinaga, officials said.
BCSO says the victim suffered a skull fracture and injury to his hand.
“I would definitely call this a savage beating that he received,” Sheriff Salazar said.
Officials said the victim was transported to University Hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover.
Media released surveillance photos of the suspect from the gas station and Salazar said Aguinaga was arrested Wednesday at his home. He is asking the other people involved to come forward as witnesses.
“I’m also not ruling out making additional arrests in this case should people choose not to cooperate with us,” Sheriff Salazar said.
Salazar also said the weapon used in the beating has not been recovered.
