‘A simple honk can set someone off’ | San Antonio woman shares video of road rage incident to warn other drivers

San Antonio police are investigating an incident of road rage after a driver fired off a pellet gun several times towards another driver.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio woman says a honk she made in traffic led to a terrifying encounter last month. She’s now sharing dash camera video of a man firing a pellet gun toward her vehicle. Fortunately, she was not injured and no one else was in the car.

San Antonio police are investigating the incident as criminal mischief.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said it happened on May 13 as she was driving on the access road of I-35, preparing to turn onto Thousand Oaks Drive.

She said a Ford truck attempted to merge in front of her.

“I didn’t have a lot of space and I was going with the flow of traffic—not letting him in—but he kept forcing his way and squeezing in to the point where he almost hit me,” she said. “So I veered into the right lane, toward other cars trying to turn right and I just started honking at him like, ‘Hey, you’re about to hit me.’”

The truck eventually merged in front of her. Once the vehicle came to a stop, the man got out, shouted at her and made an obscene gesture.

“To me, I thought it was done—it was over,” she said. “He did what he wanted to do. I just continued on my route home.”

However, after she turned onto Thousand Oaks Drive and passed the truck, she said she heard what sounded like gunfire.

“It all happened so fast and unexpectedly. I just freaked out—I didn’t even know what to do,” she said.

When she arrived home, she met with a police officer, who told her they believe the man used a pellet gun.

“It really can happen to anyone,” she said. “Just a simple honk can set someone off and make them go into a rage.”

She hopes investigators will find the suspect and hold him accountable to set an example.

“Be careful, really pay attention to your surroundings and try not to react. Keep your temper, stay calm and stay alert,” she advised.

If you recognize the man in the video, you’re urged to contact the San Antonio Police Department.
