Aaron Benson, former Texas Longhorn and Cedar Hill graduate, passes away, school says

The Cedar Hill Football team posted the news of Benson’s passing on social media.

CEDAR HILL, Texas — Aaron Benson, a graduate of Cedar Hill High School and former Texas Longhorn, passed away on Monday, according to a social media post from the Cedar Hill football team

It was unclear Tuesday afternoon how Benson died.

“The Cedar Hill Community and Football program is mourning the loss of one of our alumni,” the football team said on X. “We send our love and condolences to the Benson family.”

Benson played for now-Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire when he led the Cedar Hill High School football program before joining the collegiate ranks. Texas Tech Athletics officials gave WFAA the following comment on behalf of McGuire:

“My family and I were sad to learn of Aaron’s sudden passing. Aaron’s talent was never questioned when he stepped on the field as he remains easily one of the best players in Cedar Hill history. What I’ll remember most, though, were his actions away from football as an incredible teammate, student and friend to all who met him. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the fact I got to coach Aaron and be a small part in his journey. I join countless others who mourn his passing but celebrate all the good he brought in his life.”

Benson graduated from Cedar Hill High School in 2010 and committed to play football for the Texas Longhorns. He went to UT for four seasons, redshirting his freshman year. After his junior season, he transferred to Houston Christian in 2014.

WFAA has reached out to the University of Texas for comment.

Benson’s Longhorn teammates posted their condolences on X, including Alex De La Torre and Quandre Diggs.

“AB was a real one dawg! Hate seeing this man, one of the funniest teammates I ever had! RIH brother,” Diggs said.

“AB was a good dude. Rest in Peace, brother,” De La Torre said.
