Abandoned but inseparable: Sisters Gypsy and Sage still waiting for a home together | Forgotten Friends

Gypsy and Sage were abandoned together and have spent more than a year waiting for a family. These playful sisters hope someone will adopt them — together.💙

SAN ANTONIO — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

In this week’s Forgotten Friends, we’re introducing you to two sisters who have already been through a lot, but still haven’t lost their joyful spirit. Gypsy and Sage are 1½-year-old Cattle Dog and Boxer mixes who have been waiting for a family at Paws For Big Hearts since Dec. 21, 2024.

The sisters were found abandoned, but through it all, they’ve stayed by each other’s side. Shelter staff say the two are completely inseparable.

“Gypsy and Sage are sisters who were abandoned together and are inseparable,” staff said. “They can be shy at first, but once they open up they are a ball of energy and extremely loving.”

The pair loves being outdoors, especially chasing each other around the yard and playing fetch.

Their personalities complement each other perfectly. Gypsy is the more outgoing sister who loves attention and will happily be the center of it. Sage is a bit more observant at first but is still playful and follows Gypsy everywhere she goes.

Even with all that energy, the sisters know how to relax. When the day winds down, they’re happiest snuggled up on the couch with a blanket, soaking up pets and ear scratches.

Gypsy and Sage would thrive in an active home, especially one with older children who can keep up with their playful personalities. They also do well with other dogs if introductions are done slowly, but they’re not fans of cats.

The good news for a future adopter: both girls are healthy, spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. They’re also kennel trained and potty trained, meaning they’re ready to settle right into a home.

After more than a year of waiting, shelter staff hope someone will see just how special this bonded pair is.

Because for Gypsy and Sage, the perfect ending isn’t just finding a home — it’s finding one together. 🐾

For whoever adopts Gypsy and Sage, Lucy’s Doggy Daycare & Spa will be lending a paw by offering them a free “Glow Up” Day at the Spa, which includes a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. One of Lucy’s most cherished core values is to continue Lucy’s legacy of giving back to pups in need, as Lucy herself was a rescue!

If you’d like to adopt Gypsy and Sage, fill out a Paws for Big Hearts adoption application form hereTo arrange to meet the sisters in person for a meet and greet, email pawsforbighearts@gmail.com or message them Facebook and someone from the rescue will respond and set up an appointment.

The adoption fee is $150 and it covers the cost of spay or neuter, vaccinations, microchips and also goes towards any additional medical treatment the dogs may need. Usually, adoptions are $300 but because of how long they’ve been at the shelter and the need for them to be adopted together, the price has been reduced.

If you’d like to help, donations are always welcome and there are numerous ways to accomplish it!

They are always in need of unopened bags or cans of dog food. You can visit their Amazon Wishlist here to see what items are urgently needed.

If you’d like to drop off donations, email pawsforbighearts@gmail.com and they will arrange for the drop-off and or pickup.

You can also contribute to their Dog Food Fund — every dollar helps us feed a hungry pup.

Volunteers are always needed. Fill out an application here.

Follow them on Facebook, TikTok and on Instagram.

Remember when you adopt a shelter pet, you save two lives… the one you bring home with you and the one that now will be saved because the shelter has more room.
