Abbott issues State of Emergency due to severe storms ahead of eclipse Monday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Gov. Greg Abbott issued a state of emergency ahead of upcoming severe weather across the state Monday.

He directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to mobilize state emergency response resources ahead of a storm system expected to move across the state this afternoon.

Abbott said in his announcement that he is urging Texans and solar eclipse visitors to heed guidance from the appropriate officials and to continue to monitor weather conditions.

The governor directed TDEM to increase their readiness to Level Two, an escalated response.

The announcement comes as many travelers make their way to the Texas path of totality for the eclipse.
