Acclaimed journalist to bring new true crime tales to San Antonio’s free author event

Skip Hollandsworth delves into true crime’s dark allure at a San Antonio event, revealing stories of notorious female criminals.

SAN ANTONIO — Award-winning journalist and “Texas Monthly” executive editor Skip Hollandsworth is coming to San Antonio next week for a free author event hosted by the San Antonio Book Festival in partnership with Texas Public Radio.

Hollandsworth will discuss his new book, “She Kills: The Murderous Socialite, the Cross-Dressing Bank Robber, and Other True Crime Tales,” during a program on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, at Texas Public Radio’s Malú and Carlos Alvarez Theater. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be moderated by David Martin Davies, host of TPR’s “The Source” and “Texas Matters.”

During the last three decades, Hollandsworth has dug into and explored the state’s most memorable true-crime cases, highlighting female perpetrators in his latest book. The collection features stories ranging from a teen who poisoned her father’s refried beans to a nurse accused of killing patients in a small town. Each chapter includes updated reporting and archival black-and-white photos.

The event is part of the San Antonio Book Festival’s year-round Get Lit Author Series. A book signing will follow the conversation at 7:30 p.m., with sales provided by the Nowhere Bookshop. While admission is free, organizers encourage attendees to register in advance.
